Job Description

Software / Systems Engineer with a minimum of 8 years with experience in multidisciplinary Software Engineering with Java, C++, and/or C#; hands-on System Engineering experience including requirements analysis, test execution, build, integration, deployment, and monitoring experience. The ideal candidate is comfortable communicating technical and operational concepts to the customer and fellow engineers; planning and conducting lab or field demonstration; and support project management activities including estimation, scheduling, and risk management. The position is full-time and the place of work will be a combination of Reston, VA and telework.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Engage in systems engineering lifecycle activities that may include requirements development, test case development, test execution, risk management, system demonstration, human factors, process tailoring and compliance, technical/architectural documentation, and cybersecurity.
  • Provide technical support in implementing industry and Federal Government best practices for DevOps such as code repository management, configuration management, branching/merging code, build automation, test code coverage, and automated scanning/testing tools.
  • Provided support for Modernization and Enhancement of infrastructure and systems as requested by the government.
  • Assist in the migration support to the new platform while aligning to the agency Cloud Computing Strategy wherever possible.
  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Assist federal staff and infrastructure objectives to complete scheduled Enterprise Architecture (EA) and software upgrades as identified by IT.
  • Support the appropriate development, staging, validation, and production environments needed to support the migration and subsequent operations.
  • Work in a collaborative environment to assist in modernizing older technologies, eliminating duplicative systems, gaining efficiencies of scale by consolidating services and applications, moving services to the new platform, leveraging industry and Government best practices, and improving time to market through integration and automation.
  • Provide expertise during the development of future systems, consolidation of systems, integration of systems for improved data sharing and business intelligence, and/or the expansion of the existing systems to support new mission requirements.
  • Provide technical services to ensure successful business operations, maintenance, and enhancement of the systems.
  • Work with business and system owner in understanding the business needs and communicating to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Participate in the Agile software development and maintenance activities and ceremonies to help facilitate progress, answer any questions, and provide and understand detailed technical requirements as necessary.
  • Must be proficient in using agile lifecycle tools including GitLab and suite of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Assist the PM in developing product roadmap based on priorities laid out by the customer.
  • Actively participate/lead in the discovery/validation/verification process throughout the development and O&M life cycle.

Qualifications

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and pass DHS/TSA security screening for positions of public trust.
  • Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in software and/or systems engineering.
  • Prior relevant experience including working with in classic and agile environments.
  • System administrations skills for Windows and Linux.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle/Java platform
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD automation tools.
  • Excellent creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Interdisciplinary skills that foster rapid system prototyping and experimental solutions.
  • Systems integration and systems engineering skills including interface requirements, testing, and modeling.
  • Time management skills and capable of working productively in potentially remote environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a small, focused team under deadlines and changing priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication are required.
